How to Open SharePoint 365 in File Explorer

Are you looking to access your SharePoint 365 files directly from your Windows File Explorer? Opening SharePoint 365 in File Explorer can greatly simplify the process of managing and accessing your files, especially if you are frequently working with documents stored on SharePoint. In this article, we will guide you through the steps to open SharePoint 365 in File Explorer, making it easier for you to navigate and work with your files.

Step 1: Access SharePoint 365

Before you can open SharePoint 365 in File Explorer, you need to have access to your SharePoint site. If you haven’t already, log in to your SharePoint 365 account by visiting the SharePoint website (https://sharepoint.com) and entering your credentials.

Step 2: Open File Explorer

Next, open your Windows File Explorer by pressing the Windows key + E on your keyboard or by clicking on the File Explorer icon in your taskbar.

Step 3: Navigate to the SharePoint Site

In the File Explorer window, you will see a sidebar on the left-hand side. Click on the “This PC” or “Computer” option to expand the sidebar. Then, click on the “Map network drive” button, which is located near the top of the sidebar.

Step 4: Enter SharePoint Site URL

A new window will appear, prompting you to enter the path for the network drive. In the “Folder” field, enter the URL of your SharePoint site. This URL will typically look like “https://[yourcompany]-sharepoint.com/sites/[sitename]”. Replace [yourcompany] with your company’s name and [sitename] with the name of your SharePoint site.

Step 5: Assign a Drive Letter

After entering the SharePoint site URL, you will be prompted to assign a drive letter to the network drive. Choose a letter that is not already in use on your system. This will allow you to easily access your SharePoint files from File Explorer.

Step 6: Click Finish

Once you have assigned a drive letter, click the “Finish” button to map the network drive. Your SharePoint 365 site should now appear in the File Explorer sidebar under “Network locations” or “Network Drives”.

Step 7: Access Your Files

With your SharePoint 365 site now mapped as a network drive, you can easily access your files by navigating to the assigned drive letter in File Explorer. Simply double-click on the drive letter to open the SharePoint site and start working with your files.

By following these steps, you can now open SharePoint 365 in File Explorer, making it more convenient to manage and access your files. Enjoy the streamlined process and improved productivity!
