Step-by-Step Guide- Burning a CD with Windows Explorer for Beginners

How to Burn a CD Using Windows Explorer

Burning a CD using Windows Explorer is a straightforward process that allows you to create audio, data, or mixed-mode discs. Whether you want to compile a playlist for a road trip or back up important files, Windows Explorer provides a user-friendly interface for burning CDs. In this article, we will guide you through the steps to burn a CD using Windows Explorer on Windows 10 and older versions.

Step 1: Open Windows Explorer

To begin, open Windows Explorer by clicking on the folder icon in the taskbar or pressing the Windows key + E. Once the window is open, you will see a list of drives and folders on your computer.

Step 2: Insert a blank CD

Insert a blank CD into your computer’s CD/DVD drive. If you’re using a CD-RW or a CD-RW/DVD-RW drive, make sure it’s compatible with the type of CD you want to burn.

Step 3: Choose the correct drive

In Windows Explorer, you should now see the CD drive listed. It might be labeled as “CD Drive” or with the brand name of your drive. Right-click on the drive and select “Burn a disc.”

Step 4: Name your disc

In the “Burn a disc” dialog box, give your CD a name by typing it into the “Disc title” field. This name will be displayed on the CD when it’s burned and can help you identify it later.

Step 5: Add files to your CD

Click on “Add files” to open a new window where you can browse your computer for the files you want to burn. You can add audio files, documents, or any other type of file. Once you’ve selected the files, click “OK” to add them to the CD.

Step 6: Start burning the CD

After adding all the files you want, click “Start burn” to begin the burning process. Windows Explorer will start writing the files to the CD. Depending on the size of the files and your computer’s speed, this process can take a few minutes to several hours.

Step 7: Eject the CD

Once the burning process is complete, you will receive a notification that the CD has been burned successfully. You can now safely eject the CD from the drive by clicking on the “Eject” button next to the drive in Windows Explorer or by pressing the eject button on the CD drive itself.

Burning a CD using Windows Explorer is a simple and efficient way to create and share discs. With these steps, you can easily create audio, data, or mixed-mode CDs for your personal or professional needs.
